Specialist Referrals and Private Prescriptions

We work closely with both private and NHS consultants across a wide range of medical and surgical specialties.

If you require a referral to a private consultant or specialist, this can be arranged during your appointment. Onward referrals are included in the cost of your consultation.

Where clinically indicated, urgent cancer referrals to the NHS can also be made at the time of your appointment — this is included in your consultation fee.

Should you wish to be referred within the NHS following your appointment with us, we would be happy to make a direct referral to NHS services — avoiding the need for you to return to your NHS GP for this.

Prescriptions

During your appointment, you may be issued a prescription for medication. We partner with SignatureRx, a bespoke online pharmacy, to offer flexible options for receiving your prescription.

Prescriptions can be issued in two ways:

  1. Paper Prescription — given to you during your appointment, which you can take to any pharmacy for dispensing in the usual way. You will pay the pharmacy directly for the medication and a nominal dispensing fee.

  2. Electronic Prescription via SignatureRx — you will receive a text message and email containing a unique reference number. You can present this reference at any pharmacy, who can retrieve and dispense the prescription. Alternatively, you can follow the link in the message to request home delivery direct from SignatureRx, with next-day delivery available.

Please note, NHS exemption certificates — including free prescriptions for those aged 60 and over, maternity exemption certificates, or NHS prepayment certificates — do not apply to private prescriptions.

Switching to NHS Repeat Prescriptions
If we start you on a medication — whether because you are over 60 years old, wish to benefit from free NHS prescriptions, or for any other reason — we are happy to write to your NHS GP requesting they add the medication to your repeat prescription list.

Before doing so, we would usually recommend that you have been established on the medication, are tolerating it well, and have completed any required monitoring until your dose is stable.

Once this is the case, we can provide your NHS GP with all relevant clinical information and request that they take over prescribing, ensuring this is done safely and appropriately.

This process is generally straightforward, although in a small number of cases it may not be suitable. Please ask during your appointment if this is something you would like to consider.
