Women’s health

At the heart of our practice is a commitment to understanding and addressing the unique needs of women at every stage of life.

Whether you’re seeking guidance on family planning options tailored to your preferences or exploring contraception methods that align with your lifestyle, our female GPs are here to guide you.

Contraception

Dr Woodward can provide the following services (see price list opposite) at The Grosvenor Practice. Please be aware that some appointments may require a nurse assistant to be present.

General contraception / family planning appointments can be provided by any of our private GPs at The Grosvenor Practice.

You can book most of the services opposite online through our booking page.

The only exception is for a coil insertion or exchange, these cannot be booked online as sometimes they need some advanced planning.

To discuss a coil insertion or exchange please email  reception@thegrosvenorpractice.co.uk and we will call you back to discuss this promptly. We aim to call you back on the same day but please allow up to 48 hours.

If you are unsure of the type of contraception you require or would like to discuss your options with a private GP then please book a 30 minute appointment.

Smear tests

Evidence shows that Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing is a more effective way to identify women at risk of cervical cancer.

HPV is a common virus transmitted through sexual contact. Certain sub-types of HPV are linked to the development of abnormal cells that can lead to cervical cancer.

There are two tests that can be performed during a smear: HPV only and HPV with cytology (see details below).

The NHS only offers the single HPV smear test. At The Grosvenor Practice we offer the single HPV test and the dual HPV test with cytology.

Price List

HPV only

30 minute appointment – £125*

HPV and Cytology

30 minute appointment – £125*

*Although the prices for both tests above are the same, there will be an addition fee payable at the time of appointment which will differ depending on the test booked. Up-to-date prices for these will be added to the website shortly

HPV only

This test will only screen for the presence of the HPV virus.

If HPV is detected, then cytology (checking the cells under a microscope) will be carried out on that sample to see if there are any abnormal cells present.

If HPV is not detected on the smear then no further testing for abnormal cells is carried out. However, it is still possible to have abnormal cells or cervical cancer even if the HPV test is negative.

The test may give a false negative ie where HPV is present in the cervix but the test doesn’t detect it. There is also the possibility of not having HPV at all but still having abnormal cells or cervical cancer.

The risk of a negative HPV result and having abnormal cells or cervical cancer varies, but is thought to be around 5-11%. This means that the HPV test alone may miss some patients who have abnormal cells or cervical cancer.

HPV and Cytology

If you would like the additional reassurance of the lab testing for cytology (checking the cells under a microscope) regardless of whether you have a positive or negative HPV result, then you can specify this by booking for both tests – see prices above.
