November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and as a GP at The Grosvenor Practice, I wanted to emphasise the importance of early detection and timely intervention. Lung cancer remains one of the most common types of cancer worldwide, but with early diagnosis and the right care, the chances of a better outcome significantly increase.

Being vigilant about any changes in your health can make all the difference. Some symptoms to be aware of include. ‘Red Flags’ to look out for include:

– A persistent cough that lasts for three weeks or more

– Unexplained weight loss

– Chronic fatigue or feeling constantly out of breath

– Coughing up blood

– Recurring chest infections

– Chest or shoulder pain

While many of these symptoms can be associated with other health conditions or even daily stressors, it’s essential to listen to your body. If you notice these or any combination of these symptoms, especially if they persist or worsen, it’s time to speak to me or one of my experienced GP colleagues at The Grosvenor Practice.

Taking the Next Step:

Sometimes, the comfort of someone listening and understanding your health and having a plan of action can alleviate many anxieties. Early detection not only increases the chances of successful treatment but also potentially offers more treatment options.

Remember, lung cancer isn’t always a result of smoking; non-smokers can get it too. Regular check-ups and being in tune with your body are invaluable. This month, take a moment to prioritise your lung health. The journey might seem daunting, but with awareness, vigilance, and the right support system, it becomes more navigable.

At The Grosvenor Practice, we’re here to listen, guide and support you. If you’re concerned about any of these red flag symptoms, please make an appointment online here or call us on 01722 703899.
