Depending on your symptoms and clinical needs, your GP can arrange tests at the practice or through local diagnostic providers.

If blood tests are required, these may be taken at the end of your appointment or scheduled for a future date.

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a simple, non-invasive test that records the electrical activity of your heart. It can help detect previous heart damage and identify irregular heart rhythms such as atrial fibrillation.

A standard short ECG taken at the practice.
Can usually be arranged before or after your face-to-face consultation, or scheduled on a separate day if preferred.
A worn monitor that records continuously for 24 hours up to 14 days. Used to investigate ongoing or intermittent rhythm symptoms that may not show on a short ECG.
Requires a 30-minute consultation first to discuss your symptoms and choose the right monitoring period.
Spirometry is a simple breathing test that measures how much air you can breathe in and out, and how quickly you can exhale.
It can help diagnose and monitor conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Spirometry can usually be completed during your appointment if time allows. If additional time is needed, it can be arranged separately, either before or after your consultation, or on another day.
If arranged as a separate appointment after your consultation, an additional appointment fee may apply (the 15-minute follow-up fee plus the cost of the test).
If imaging is needed, your GP can arrange X-rays, ultrasound scans, CT scans or MRI scans through local diagnostic providers.
Our closest private hospital is New Hall Hospital, just outside Salisbury, although the most suitable provider will depend on the type of scan required and local availability.
Private imaging can help reduce waiting times compared with NHS pathways, with some investigations available at short notice. If you choose to proceed, we can arrange the referral for you during your appointment.
Imaging fees are payable directly to the hospital or imaging provider carrying out the scan, not to The Grosvenor Practice.
If you intend to use private medical insurance, please check with your insurer in advance that imaging requested by a private GP is covered.
We'll contact you once your results are available. Some can be communicated simply, while others may benefit from a follow-up appointment to discuss the findings properly.
A follow-up may be recommended if your results are abnormal, if further management is needed, if additional tests are required, or if you'd simply like more time to go through them with a GP.
The cost of investigations varies depending on what's needed. The fees below cover the tests we carry out at the practice.
Blood tests, imaging and specialist investigations are charged separately. Costs will be discussed with you in advance.
A spirometry test outside of your appointment is charged as follows. A 15-min follow-up (£85) + spirometry (£50)
Our Health Plans include unlimited GP appointments, repeat prescriptions and specialist referrals, from £45 a month.
