Joint pain and stiffness can have a significant impact on day-to-day life.
Dr Rupert Pemsel takes time to assess your symptoms and discuss the most appropriate treatment, which may include steroid or Durolane® joint injections where clinically suitable.
From small joints in the hand to larger joints like the knee, we treat a broad range of joint and soft tissue problems.
Before any injection is offered, Dr Pemsel will carry out a full clinical assessment. This includes a review of your symptoms, medical history and any previous treatments, followed by examination of the affected joint or area.
The aim is to understand the likely cause of your pain and agree the most appropriate next step. In some cases, an injection may be suitable. In others, imaging, physiotherapy, medication changes or specialist referral may be more appropriate.
A 30-minute appointment for a detailed assessment of your joint pain or soft tissue problem. If a steroid injection is appropriate, it can often be carried out during the same appointment.
The injection procedure itself is usually quick and straightforward. Whether treating one or two areas, the procedure typically takes no more than 15 minutes.
Steroid injections are not suitable for every patient and will only be offered after a full clinical assessment.
Steroid injections, sometimes called cortisone injections, can help reduce inflammation within or around a joint or soft tissue structure.
They may help relieve pain, swelling and stiffness, particularly during flare-ups of arthritis, tendon irritation, bursitis or other inflammatory conditions.
Steroid injections are not a cure, but they may provide meaningful symptom relief as part of a wider treatment plan.
Dr Rupert Pemsel offers steroid injections for a range of joint and soft tissue problems, including:
For knee osteoarthritis, Durolane® may be considered as an alternative treatment option
Durolane® contains hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in healthy joints. It helps lubricate and cushion the knee joint, with the aim of reducing pain and improving mobility.
Durolane® is given as a single injection and is performed by Dr Pemsel under ultrasound guidance to support accurate placement.
The procedure is usually quick and straightforward, and some patients may experience symptom relief lasting several months.
Durolane® is not suitable for every patient. Dr Pemsel will discuss whether it is right for you following an assessment.
All Durolane® knee injections are performed under ultrasound guidance.
All patients must have an initial assessment before a joint injection is performed.
Additional charges may apply for imaging, scans, prescriptions, physiotherapy or specialist referral if required. These will be discussed with you in advance.

Can't find an answer?
Yes. All patients require an initial assessment before a joint injection is performed.
This allows Dr Pemsel to assess the problem, discuss your symptoms and decide whether an injection is appropriate.
Yes, in many cases. If a steroid injection is appropriate and there is enough time during the appointment, it can often be carried out during the same visit.
If further planning, imaging or additional time is needed, a separate appointment may be arranged.
Steroid injections may help with inflammatory joint or soft tissue problems such as arthritis flare-ups, bursitis, tendon irritation, trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder pain and knee osteoarthritis.
No. Steroid injections are not suitable for every patient or every joint problem.
Dr Pemsel will review your medical history, symptoms and examination findings before advising whether an injection is appropriate.
Some people notice improvement within a few days, while for others it may take longer.
The response varies depending on the condition being treated and the individual patient.
The duration of benefit varies. Some patients experience relief for weeks or months, while others may have a shorter response.
Injections are usually considered as part of a wider treatment plan rather than a cure.
